Dear Parents we arived in Washington last sunday morning at day light we left thare for Camp Chace arlington hights monday morning which is 6 1/2 miles our knapsacks and guns would weigh 65 pounds it rained all day sunday and all night and left about 3 inches of mud most of the men would marched 10 miles the same day this morning we started at 8 oclock and marched here in 3 hours & we have put up our tents and got hay to / lay on when when we got to northhampton the cars stopt near a large orchard ful of apples and some had picked up five or six bushels give us we took the boat at newhaven got to newyork friday morning took another boat NJ then took the cars for baltimore we crosed the susquihanah at ferrysville their is cars in the train 16 of them run to ferryboat at once got to Baltimore about 3 oclock saturday got dinner and for washington at dark run out 10 miles and stopt till 3 oclock am reached washington at day light we took brakefast at new york fryday morning / super at phelidelphia we are agoing in Gen Cacys Division the 12th Vt Reg is about half a mile from here and all the nine month men will be in one brigad
Oct 30 we are agoing back arlington hights
thursday night we are one mile farther on the than before and I do not know whare we are going next we marched 6 1/2 m monday 8 mile drilled hard tuesday marched 8 miles wednesday 9 miles to day and can go 15 to morow if called upon /
we have had bread and pork to day and we will have beef and bread tomorrow we have plenty of tea and coffee and sugar the bagage is mostly drawn mules drove by nigers they are a goodeal alike their is an ugly looking set in Baltimore they will not cheer soldiers atall but will sell poison pies if they cane to of the 14th died from eating pies the other day and some of our men bought some that had pounded glass in them all the Vt Regt moved today Mr Cook has a cold but able do duty have you got the clothes yet write and tell us
