Dear Parents I rcieved your letter last night was glad to from home I wrote soon after we settld here we have stockaded our tents 4 1/2 feet high they ar very comfortable now the money you sent me I was glad to get I had enough of it if I had kept it but I lent five dollars to a man when we left Brattleburo which left me but 4$ or about that but I thought we should be payed sometime he is good for it and will pay as soon as he can but the lees a man buys here the better I buy a few apples and cheas and that is about all as soon as I know we are sure of / of stoping in one place long enough I think of sending home for a smal box of butter and Chease and sugar and berries Cheas is 25 cents and butter 40 cents per pound and poor at that Mr Cook had a letter the other night that said they had not heard from him since the 16 of november he wrote the 5th and 11 of Dec. and sent for some stamps and 2 dollars in money tell his wife that he is well One of our Company died last Saturday he was taken wednesday with chils and fever it lasted one night then he was crazy till he died he had neve been sick here before and was the first and only man we have lost he was about 20 years old handsome and smart as eny in the Co. /
have you got the wood down of the hill and how much was their of it how many figs are you keeping and how large are they how is my sheep are you going to have hay enough does the sorell colt doe eny better than in in the summer did you get that 50 dollars bounty you never told me if you did and doe you draw the 7 per month I sent you power of aterney from Brattleburo and you neve let me know if you got that when you write send a stamp as I can not get them here evry day and I want to write once whle to Claremont and Plainfield I think we shall / get payed of before long if we doe I shal send most of it home if I can doe it safely I hear that our army got beat at Fredricksburg that is bad but so it will be as long as Masonry is respected if it want for that the war would been over long ago but now I dont know what we are comeing to there is 40)000 men down near the stasion they are the same that past here a few days ago for Fredricksburg one Division of them went 18 miles from here the other went most their and was sent back told that their more than they wanted already I doe not know how long we will stay here but I think if we move it will be a backward march I have taken up all the room write soon yours truly Edward Grannis
