Dear Brother John I recieved your letter yesterday I was glad to hear from you I hope Father and Mother will have a good visit at Lowell you must take good care of the Girls while they are gone and not let them get sick did you get the Soldiers record that I sent you Hattie and Maggie must frame it if you get it have you got the picture I sent a few days ago I wish you could have been here the other night when we had a snow ball the whole Regt. was out the Col. and Lut. Col. chose sides and it was a / grand time Co. G was on the Cols side their was 5 Cos. on a side the Col. beat
 
Margaret says in her letter that you are going to make 50 buckets whare are you going make sugar I should like to know if you can tell
 
I went over to the 16th the other day and saw sergent Adams he is a Brother of Miss Etta Adams we were mustered to day for our pay some say that we shal be payed of again before long but I dont think it will get along till about the first of April we have now four months pay due us but we shal not get but 2 of it this time as the Government keeps a month behind all the time /
 
            the snow has gone of and it is warm and mudy enough there is a great many of the boys sick with the meeseles but none in our Co they dont have them hard and I hope they wont Sargent Spalding the Color barer has got them he has been very sick but is geting well this Regt. has seen the hardest service of eny in the Brigade since we came out but now we are having an easy time but we shal have our pay for it when the dry weather comes they wi will find enough for us to do to make up lost time I dont think of any thing more worth writing so I will stop from your Brother Edward Grannis /
 
I wrote this in a hury perhaps you can not read it if you cant wait till I get home and I will read it for you
 
when you write again put some worm wood in your letter Mrs Cook has got some and you may send some more pepper if you are a mind to
