                                                Jan the 18 1862
 
                                    Dear Father I reseaved youre kind letter & was glad to hear from yow but youre letter Found me well at presant & hoping these few lines will find yow engoing the same helth but pap yow can do as yow pleas a bout that but there aint nothing going on here now but old Genral Michel was down at Green River yester day & he went out the other side of oure pickets & capt. Lumis was with him & 4 or 5 guards & they was fird on by the rebles & Genral Michel sed that the guards that was with him one of them was wounded & the balence of them got taken prisners but he sed he pirty near got taking prisners him Selfe but pap there was one of oure boys died yesterday & the compney all throd in & sent him home his name is John Cizer he be long to our compney he was a dutch man pap I was a Shewing a mule the other day for old Bud & the mule was quite but some of them is pirty hard to shew but pap we get plenty to eat evry day & we get corn meal & we make mush but I am a doing nothing onley I have to go on guard sometimes but there aint no Drilling to do but we can get wat I want here there is a Backe ubon here & we will / get lite Bread to eat pap tom told me to tell yow that he was a going to send yow 20 Dolars next pay day & he sed that yow can use hit if yow want to but pap I dont know wether I will have eney money or not for they are a going to take out of my wages for clothing & I wont have ver much but that is all at presant write soone
