My Dear Fannie
I have just about one minuet to drop you a few lines. we have just got into camp after a pretty hard days march and what is better I have got a chance to send a letter to Vicksburg to be mailed so that it may in time reach you. we are doing active service in the field. for the last two days our advance has been skirmishing almost constantly with the enemy. where we are now encamped they had a brisk little fight this morning and a few fresh made graves marks the spot where some of our brave boys fell and where the enemy bit the dust. our Brigade has been guarding a supply train so that we have not been engaged in any of the fighting yet but I expect that tomorrow or next day we shall go to the front and then I trust / you will hear a good report of the 32nd. we never have done any fighting yet for we have never had a chance but the time is fast approaching when the enemy will either retreat or we will give them the best we have got. Our advance occupies Jackson and we are expecting that in a few days we shall have a pretty warm time with them.

Fannie I have not yet received any of those letters, since the first of January. I expect that this will be the last chance I shall have to send or receive mail for a long time so you must wait patiently, and if the good Lord spares my life and health through this campaign I will write you a good long letter or come home one of the two. I had rather do the latter for I want to see my dear little Fannie very much, but I must wait patiently I suppose. but Fannie dear my time is up and I must close. when you write direct to me Via Cairo and I guess I will get it. my best regards to all and may the good Father have you in his keeping is the prayr of your                                       Frank
