Companys G, B and K went down the river on a kind of a scout they gathered up all the canoes and flats they could find and wednesday night at twelve oclock they started down the river I did not go with them on the acount of just coming / in from guarding a cotton train to Millikens bend they went down the river a bout 15 or 20 miles where they found a cotton gin with 143 bales of cotton in it they loaded up with cotton and started back they brought up 65 bales of the cotton and 50 bushels of salt a barrel of rum and one of molases and a lot of hams and chickens and turkeys they say the country out there is all overflowed with watter they could sail rite up to the houses the folks out there cant leave the house only as they get into a canoe
