Dear Father and Mother and Sister
            I received a letter from you the other day was glad to here you were all well I am well as usual we are still in the same place as when I wrote to you last there is not much going on here that is worth while to mention we had a little excitement yestarday morning the reporte was that there was going to be a charge made that the artillery was going to commense firing at 4 oclock in the morning and keep it up till 10 oclock and then we were to make a charge the artillery fired as was reported the regt regiment fell in and evry thing looked as though the report was true we were ordered to stack arms / and wate for further orders time passed on the artillery kept up astigy fire evry body was waiting for the time to come when we were to make the dreaded attact at last ten oclock came and also the order to fall in excitement ran to the highest pitch evry one was thinking that perhapse he might be one of the many that must fall before the enimys works were taken all of a sudding our fears were turnd to a shout of joy as the order came to break ranks and go to our quarters
 
Mr Atkinson and Fosket are both well Mr Wheeler is well agane I hurd from Herrington the other day he is getting along furst rate
 
Captain Jewett is with us a gane he looks quite healthy I do not know when we will be discharged nor cannot give any guess the report / here is that Goviner Tod has chartered a boat and sent after us and that we are to be sent up the river as soon as our time is out I do not know whether it is so or not but if I live long enough I shall come home some time you must not feel discouraged if I do have to stay a month or even 3 months I dont think of any more to write so good by
