Camp Cleer creek June 30/63
Dear Father Mother and Sister
I received a letter from you today was glad that you was all well I am well as usual and expecting to see home before long we have moved from the reer of Vicksburg back to a small creek called cleer crek it is neer Big Black river we have a nice camp here our tents came and we put them up yestarday it is very warm weather here now Wheeler Atkinson and Fosket are well. I heard from Herrington the other day they said he was getting a long furstrait he is at Youngs point in the Hospital /
you want to know if I think Vicksburg will fall into our hands I do think it will it cant help but fall into our hands it may be a long time first but fall it must Port Hudson is ours and I think that it is going to make a great change in the looks of affars here at Black river I think Johnson will be for running instead of fighting if he attacts us here we will have him in a trap as bad as the one old Pemberton is in
you want to know if I want any money I do not I would like to get red of about 35 or 40 dollars of what I have never the less I am much obliged to / Ma for what she sent me I got that paper and envellopes that Pa sent me and I am much obliged to him for it now about coming home I do not know when we will be discharged there is so many reports about it but I guess there will be no use of your answering this for in all probability I shall be coming up the river before I could get an answer to it you must not worry about me for it does not do any good to me nor yourself now Pa you you must not let the Copperheads get the start of you when I get home I will lay some of them out if they dont dry up /
