Dear Aunt I received a few lines from you and as Newell has left part of this sheet I will try and pen a few lines to you. I am well and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same blessing. this is Newells pen and it scratches some and I can hardly write so you can read it I have been out on horseback today I rode 8 miles and carried gun and catridges and it made my shoulder lame there is about 25 men going out tomorrow to find a camping ground as the logs are few and scatering about this place I intend to go with them I hope that Ill come off safe and sound We are to be armed and will doubtless be gone 3 days. I hope grandpa will be permited to live till I come home if I am luckey enough to return. tell him that I do not intend to form any bad habbits while here
