Camp Sanders July 3/64
Dear Father Mother and Sister
I received your letter of the 26th yestarday and now I will try and answer it I am well as usual all the boys that came down with me are well I suppose that Henry and Jim Warner are at home before now I hope they both of them got through safe it is raining this morning and rained last night quite hard it looks as though we was going to have a rainy fourth if it is a good day we are going to have a great time here in camp I hope you will enjoy yourselvs up there if we dont here now about my discharge I dont think / that there is any use of trying to get my discharge and I dont think that I would take it if they would give it to me if I stay six months it wont be only a little while longer and then I will have $80 more to fetch home
corn is tassled out and higher than you can reach wheat is all cut oats are almost ripe enough to cut is there going to be any fruit up there this summer or did the frost kill it all black berries are jest gitting ripe there is going to be any amount of them here
I think if George is not well enough to go back to the army that he had better get his discharge I hope that it is not so about the Liverpool / boys being taken prisoners what do the folks up there think about Grant taking Richmond I suppose that he is loosing a great many men there I must quit and help rais the flag pole for tomorrow excuse mistakes and bad writing and oblige
