                                                                                                Nashville September 2ond/64
 
Dear Father Mother and Sister
            I received your letter of the 28th today and now will try and answer it for I dont know when I will have time agane since I wrote to you last we ha to have maide some quick moves and changes last tuesday about 9 oclock word came that Weeler was within afew miles of us with 6000 cavalry and we wer ordered to pull stakes and go to Nashville we took our mill apart in less than no time and was ready to start we did not have time to load our mill so we left it and I heard that the rebs burned it up we come to Nashville and I dont know how long we will stay / we will not go back till there is no danger of the rebs taking us I was out with a forage trane yestarday and they were fighting so clost to us that we could hear the reports of their guns we expected evry minute that they would take us when we got back to camp we were ordered to turn over our carbines and draw muskets all the teamsters had to draw guns last night the Quartermaster asked for men to voluntere to report for duty 52 myself reported but he has got men enough so we came back to camp we had to drill an hour this morning
 
they are making preperations for a fight here the General comanding the post went out with 10,000 men to meat Wheeler yestarday /
 
I think C B L had quite a clost call if he tells the truth I am glad to hear that George has spunk enough to stand up to them coperheads they had not better give me any of their lip when I get home we have got a good many of them here in our camp but they dont say much to me about politics I never try to make them think I am any thing only what I am
