Camp Hodge Sept 17th/64
Dear Father Mother and Sister
I received your letter of the 11th last night and will try and answer it I received two other letters from you this week I am having tip top times now dont have any thing to do only evry other day then we go out with the forage trane I hope you will use my rifle if you get a chance I will be at home to help you as soon as my time is up things are rather high I think up North I am sorry to hear that Uncle Nelsons folks are sick I hope to hear by your next that they are better it must be verry sickly around there I dont think there is any kneed of you getting scart about me I dont think the rebs are going to get me yet a while I read in the the paper that there was / no pasingers allowed to go north on the louisvill and Nashvill r r I dont know what it if is for but I hope the road will be open by the time my time is out
about that money of Alphs I will pay the negroes you may keep it there is no kneed of you sending it to me for I have money enough you must excuse me for not writing more this time
