Camp Hodge Oct 2ond/64
Dear Father Mother and Sister
I received your letter of the 25th last night was glad to hear you were all well I am well as usual now I did not feel verry well last week but am all right now I am glad to hear you have joined the union league I hope you will clean the copperheads out if they dont keep still I will beat home to help I hope
I am sorry to hear that potatoes are rotting so bad corn has been ripe here quite a spell and most of the folks have pulled there fodder I hope they will put Cit Olen through I am sorry to hear Drek Put was wounded do they think he will get well or not I hope he will get well for he was a good boy / I am glad to hear that Uncle Nelson is getting well how did it happen that Oscar darling got killed on the cars
James Everley is well but William Born is not verry well just now he sais been having the fever but is getting better they both intend to come when I come home is Mr Born sick now
there is a good many sick in camp now most of them sick with the ague it is verry cold nights and warm days
the gurrillies captured one of our boys took his horse and gun and payrolled him and sent him back to camp
you wanted me to write what staition to meat me at I dont know when I shall start nor what station I shall stop at Newell
