My Dear Harriet:
Yours of 16th came to hand yesterday morning—very welcom & gratefully received—it finds us well & rejoice to hear of the improved health of Sarah & good health of all the rest.

Charles made me a call yesterday he is well also. This morning about 3 O’C heavy picket & Artillery firing commenced on the right in front of Petersburg—we were ordered to “fall in”—“Pack up”—“Strike tents” & now while I write are in battle line ready for any kind of a move—may be off today or tonight for some place unknown to us as yet. I am in good health—feel tip top & hope we all may be blessed with our ususual blessings from our Heavenly Father during the summer before us. I send in this $10—for fear that I may not have the opportunity again in a some days.

I cannot repeat my regards & assurances of love to you all this time in a manner suitable to my / wishes. But in closing this pray you all to remember me in love—imparting the same to all our relatives Fathers, Mothers brothers & Sisters retaining to yourself & our dear children the share to which you have ever received & are richly entitled.

Pray for us during the campaign about to be opened. With trust and confidence in the goodness of our Heavenly Father, I commit myself & you all to his care & mercies

Write to me often--& believe me as ever

in love. Kiss the children for me.
