"The Battle Cry of Freedom," Poem, 23 August 1863
the battle cry of freedom

We are marching to the field boys
were going to the fight shouting the battle cry of freedom
and wee’l bear the glorious stars
for the union and the right shouting the battle cry
chorus
the union forever hurrah boys hurrah
down with the traitors and up with the stars
for were marching to the field boys
were going to the fight shouting the battle cry

we will meet the rebel hosts boys
with fearless hearts and true   shouting the
and weel show what Unkle Sam
has his brave men to do          shouting the battle

if we fall amid the fray boys
weel face them to the last       shouting the
and our comrades brave shall hear us
as we go rushing past              shouting the /

yes for liberty and union
were springing to the last        shouting the
and the victory shall be ours
for were rising in our might
shouting the battle cry of freedom
