Head quarters 10th Vt Vols
Dear Brother I now take afew moments time to write afew lines to you. Well to be gin with I suppose you would like to know our rout out here. We left Brattleboro sat sep 4th about noon and went to New Haven, got thare there about 10 oclock then took the boat for New York got there about lights we then marched up broad way in front of City Hall and stoped and took breakfast and then took the boat again for south amboy New Jersy. then took the cars for Philidelphia. We had to cross the Delaware in a boat We got in to Philidelphia about 7 oclock sunday night and they gave us some supper and we took the / cars for Baltimore. I think Philidelphia is the finist City or place I ever saw every man that was able to bear arms was orderd out to drill the next day. We got to Baltimore about 10 oclock Monday it is a dirty and nasty place but the place is well laid out. the slops of the City run through the streets and smells bad. We took the cars again about 3 oclock for Washington and got there about 10 oclock tired boys I guess as you ever saw. we camped in sight of the Capitol and tuesday morning we came here about 4 miles from the City on the Rebel General Lees Lees farm and it looks hard I tell you. the Vt Cavalry is encamped with in 12 miles of here. I went over to see Roselio he is not very well now but I guess he will get better soon the Vt brigade parsed passed through here afew / days ago Roselio saw them Lucius is at Fort Monroe he is laid up with the rehumitism but I must close for for we are under marching orders and there was six Regts left this camp yesterdy and one battery. We expect for Chain bridge and we may go there to; they are 150,000 men I think in this line and there are forts in all directions I think it is almost impossible for the Rebels to get in here. I am harty tough as a bear, and like camp life first rate. I suppose you are have got well and how is Suly
but good by for for now write as soon soon as you can for I want to hear from you. give my love to all who enquire and except ashare for your self.
