My Dear Brother
I will now after this long abcence try & write afew lines to you. I am well & hearty & these few lines will find you enjoying good health; I got your letter afew days ago & was verry glad to hear from you again I should have answered it before but we have been verry busy lately; We have moved twice since I wrote to you before the first time we moved was about three weeks ago; We then moved about nine miles to Anfach cross roads it is 12 or 14 miles from Washington there was the first time our Brigade was all together; we staid there about / about 10 days then larst saterday three Comps of us come here about six miles from where the rest are encamped; it is the County seat of Montgomery County it is the best looking village I have seen since I have been out here; but the Inhabitants & about one half secesh & they are expecting a draft on this County & on the inhabitants or secesh here say they wont stand it & when there is no troops here they live in an uproar all the time; but when there are troops here they are all quiet & they had better be if they aint we will give them what they cant get every day I dont think we shall here long; we only came for five days & them are out to night / but I some expect to stay here a while longer I wish we could stay here all winter, but if we go back now some other Comps will come & take our place; I dont know wheather we shall stay back to head Quarters or not this winter We had got most all stockaded up for winter when we came away but we dont know one hour some times before we have to move the Soldier knows no rest & every place is his home it may be out on the cold ground with nothing but our blankets & the Canopy of heaen over us; but we are in splended quarters now we are all in a large bulding just the thing to contain three Comps & there stores two Comps up stairs & one below with the stores it we have got a good / large stove in each part so we do not suffer any with the cold & it does not seem posible that it is getting so late in the year tomorrow you are calcurlating I suppose on having & good General Thanksgiving I wish I was there to eat lots of good stuff with you, but cant leave just yet. neather do I wish to untill this Rebelion is stoped which I think will soon be done & I think if I live we shall all be at home by next June but I must draw to a close for this time give my love to all enquireing friends Write soon as convenient
