John H. Black to Susan J. Leighty, 13 January 1865
Harpers Ferry, Va.
January. 13. 1865.
My Dear Wife:
Good evening to you. Hope you are well. I am well. This is not intended as a letter, just simply a note accompanying a copy of our paper.
You will notice that our new Colonel receives quite a flattering notice in its columns. No doubt he is richly deserving it. In my humble opinion he is an excellent officer, and a gentleman.
Weather is pleasant. Everything quiet
My Love to you
Your true devoted &
Affectionate
Husband
