                                                                                                                        Dec. 28/63

            My Dear Friend Jennie:—
Your kind favor of the 23rd Inst is at hand. It reached me safely, was joyously received; read with due respect to yourself and shall be answered punctually and in a manner (with an endeavor) to please you. I am pleased to hear of the continued good health of my loving Girl, and to her I can this night send the same news joyously, knowing that it will be pleasing to her. Discontment is still the ruling of Power of you, and all on account of me being absent from you. Never mind the time is rolling swiftly by: the three years will soon be past. The 10th of next December will be the last of the enlistment. If I live I will then return to you, if not sooner. So rest easy my devoted, true, faithful & Loving Girl, and you will meet your friend /

We are having gay times. Duty very easy & we enjoy the times to perfection. The weather is pleasant as December can be. The year is passing. Yes is nearly passed. This will no doubt be the last letter I write to you in the year /63. And then we will see the Leap Year appear. The year that the ladies claim as their own. Ere that year passes by I expect to be with you again, and that to remain with you. You may expect (as I have told you before) to see me at home this winter. What time I can not say at all.

The Revival is still going on as lively as ever. Many souls are saved, at least professed to be. I have not been to the meeting yet. The boys nearly all attend.

Well Jennie, Remember me to your Mother, Aunt & Sam Confer

                        And accept my devoted Love

With my name as yours & yours alone
