Matthew S. Austin to Russell Austin, 27 June 1864
Lincoln Hospital
Washington. D.C.
June 27th/64
Dear Father
Your letter of the 24th was received this afternoon. The box you have forwarded I shall probably get tomorrow. There is a great and favorable change in the condition of my arm. The surgeon in charge said it would be imposible for me to go home this week—I ought not to attempt it. You make no prepation to come for me until you hear from me again. I am resting better than I have done—have a very good appetite—and in good spirits
Perhaps at the end of six or eight days I shall be able to travel without much assistance.
Yours Truly
M. S. Austin.
