My Dear friend I
drop you a few lines by Richard who is coming home on furlough I had written before but had rec’d no answer So I concluded that it might not hav reached you & as I cant bear for your communication not to come to hand I deemed it sufficient excuse for me to write a gane this time M[?] well & I hope it will find you & all of my friends well I hav no news of interest to write you only report says that Old Abe is the chosen President of the United Stats for the next four years & if so I fear that the war will / continue for some time yet But Be that as it may I for one will never agree to submit I lost one of my horses a few days a go he died with the Bats I lost the one I left for Dack to use while I was gon home I think Dack will get to come home soon am detail after a Horse Well My Dear girl I do not know when I will get to see you a gain but you may be shore it will not be my fault if I don’t see you soon agan My thoughts is allways of the I wood giv worlds if I had them at my comand that I could allways could be with you but fate wills it otherwise & / I must not complain for I wood not be a true Southen Solder if I did complain & you know that I am as true to the Southern cause as I am to you so you know that I will never complain untill our Beloved Cause is consimated
