                                                                                    My Dear girl I embrace the presant of dropping you a few lines Well I hav nothing new to write you We hav had quite a dull time this winter Nothing a doing here though we had some party the Soldiers gav it but a lass I did not hav you there so you know that I could not enjoy my self much without your presents Well old Lincon is Relected again for 4 years more & some thinks that the war will last 4 years longer but still I dont think that it will last so long but I am in good spirets I hav gust hird that we had captured Shermons army & him allso if that be true Georgia did not Bleede in vain for if we hav captured that army I think we will hav peace in less than 3 months I hope the news is true I think that we will stay here during this winter & perhaps during the war or at least I fear so though we are tolerably cumfortably situated here not much duty to do we are not exposed of a Knight at all we hav a house where we hav to stand picket We only come on duty out about wanse a week Well My dear girl I hope the time is not fair distant when we will meete to part no more I liv in hops of a Better day a comeing Well My dear girl we must try & make up our minds to endure it I am two good a Confederate to complain I still think that we will gain our Indapindance N A Swor has gon home on detail after a Horse you will see him You may be shore that I will come the first chanse giv my respects to your famely & Rcieve My Love for yourself         J D Swor
