Dear Brother
I received your welcome letter the other day while bivouacking in an open field near Cedar Creek about 4 miles from here. We were there on the track of Stone Wall but havent seen any thing of him yet You will know by my letters to Mother & Dave of our starting from Winchester and of the circumstances attending our arrival at this place so that I am afraid all I can tell you now is as you do with me when you write and that is that I am well and hope you enjoy the same health /

I received a letter from Mary at the same time I received yours and she said that Mother & Mrs Richards were talking of us thinking that we were laying in the wet and snow but I think that if they had seen us that morning plucking geese they would not have thought so The way we got them was this the night before when we stopped for the night, Morg and some of the boys went over to a farmhouse for straw there was some geese around and Morg says that two of the geese chased him I dont know how true that was but I know that we had geese for breakfast next day

I havent got any news to write at present /

We have expectation of going to Centreville in a few days and if we do go I will give you a longer letter

Give my love to all the Family & receive the same yourself

from your aff Brother
                        Daniel
