            Fredricksburg Dec 10 ’62
We receivd orders to be ready to move, at Stafford Hghts and the left bank of the Rappahannock opposite H— were occupied by 150 pcs of artillery. Early on the AM of Dec 11th with the Brigade the 36th Mass moved down toward the river and remn’d / there all day while the pontoons were being laid. the soldiers near the Lacy house were seriously hinderd in their efforts by sharp shooters advantageously posted on the opposite bank of the river nor did a terrific shelling of the town did not succeed in dislodging them.
