Dear Brother Hen
Your welcome letter of the 11th inst was received here on Sunday evening and I now take the pleasure of answering it. I was wondering why you did not write as I received the “enclosure” (and it was a pretty large one) I was pretty certain the letter would not be three months behind it at most. Dave’s letter with your Photograph has not yet reached me. I suppose it has gone where a great many of the Soldiers letters go, through the carelessness of the army Postmasters /
We had a pretty busy time of it last week going through inspections and review on Wednesday our Division was reviewed by Gen Slocum and on Thursday the whole Corps was reviewed by Gen Hooker after review was over the commanders of the different Regiments were invited to Gen Slocum’s Headqrs where Hooker made a short speech in which he said that it would not be long before we would be able to move against the Rebels.
the roads are still in a very bad condition as we have rainy weather almost all the time.
Our 2nd Lieut. is now home on / furlough. I suppose you will have a chance to see him as he will go to Catasauqua to see Bob Williams & Weaver
Col Knipe has been promoted to Brigadier General. Lt. Col Selfridge of Bethlehem I believe has been promoted to the Colonelcy of our Regt
I am well.
No more at present
Give my love to Mother, Brothers & Sisters, to Cousins & receive the same
yourself from your
aff Bro
