Daniel Davis to David Davis, 11 June 1863
Camp Parole
Annapolis. Md. June 11th 1863
Dear Bro Dave
Your letters of last week reached me in good time with the receipt for the money enclosed. Dogherty’s receipt reached here yesterday. he had drawed his money a few days before. the Express Agent taking his signature for it. the “Flag” & “Nicknax” reached me today and I am much obliged to you for sending them on. they serve to pass away the time as we have nothing at all to do, and now that we are getting tired of visiting the town we amuse ourselves by reading. There is a fine library attached to the Camp Hospital but no books are allowed to pass out as the men are very neglectful in returning them. we can go and sit in the library & read the books as long as we like /
Annapolis is getting to be pretty dull once more All our officers have left for their Regiments having been exchanged some time last week I have not heard any thing about our exchange and I expect as we were not exchanged with the Officers we will have to stay here until the middle of July. I was in town a few days ago and visited the State House. from the Cupola I could see the country for miles around. I could see across the bay into Delaware. the bay is 12 miles in width at this point.
I send my Photograph by this letter & as I really have no news to write I must close
Give my love to Mother, Sisters & Brothers
& receive the same yourself from
Your aff Bro
