Camp near Green Castle
July 18th 1863
Dear Bro.
I havent got much to write about so I only write knowing that you would like to hear how I am &c I am in first rate health at present & hope you all at home are the same. We have changed our camp from above Green castle to a woods about 1/2 a mile below it. The first night we were here it rained almost all night & about 8 Oclock in the morning we were drowned out, about 50 of us & we are now in a barn about / 50 yards from the camp. Gov Curtin was in our camp day before yesterday & made a speech he says we are not any more anxious to get home than he is to send us home. He says he wont keep us here one hour longer than we are needed. He also told Col N Gen Nagle that he was going straight to Harrisburg to make arrangements to pay us before we left here. Provisions are getting scarce around here but we have 2 loaves Bread A quart of Apple Butter Canteen of Milk & about 4 quarts of dewberrys besides plenty of coffee sugar & Hard Tack /
I have not heard anything from Saml Baker since we left chambersburg. I haven’t got anything more to communicate. Love to Mother Bros & Sisters same
