Dear Brother
I wrote to you a few days ago from Camp near Tenallytown at that time I expected that we would get into Camp to rest & recruit but I had hardly finished my letter before orders came to march and in an hour I found myself on the same road that I had travelled almost a year ago under far different circumstances. I hear that the Rebels have crossed the river in force. I cant say how true that is but if they are we are prepared to meet them. I hardly think they will attempt to cross in force though they may send / a force across to forage & destroy. Sumner’s Corps is with us. I seen John McClellan & James Hutchinson in the 53rd Pa. they tell me that Job Davis has been sick and was left in Alexandria to recruit his health. Isaac Davis has been unwell for the last two weeks and had to be sent from us at Bull Run. he was not very sick but the Docter thought it best to send him off in time I think that if he does not take care of himself he will take the Fever. Joe Matchett and myself are the only Catasauqua boys left in the Company at present I see that old Penna is again on the move I suppose you have a great time of it drilling & getting ready to meet old ! Stone wall / I dont think they will venture very far from the Potomac as if they do it will only give us a better chance at them. they are pretty hard up at present. most of the Prisoners that are brought in have no clothes. shoes they need very badly. and by the way they try to get at our provision trains. I [?] they were hard up for something to eat

I think that the next two or three months will settle the question one way or the other

                        no more at present

Give my love to Mother, Brothers & Sisters, to all inquiring Friends
& receive the same yourself

                        from your affectionate Brother
                                                Daniel Davis

I received a letter from Sam but as he promised to write again I have been waiting for his letter before writing. D. Davis /
