Daniel Davis to David Davis, 11 October 1863
Camp Parole
Annapolis. Md
Oct 11th /63
Dear Bro Dave
Yours of the 8th inst was received yesterday and I now hasten to answer the “X.” was very acceptable I can assure you, the more so as we have not been paid for the last two months and we have expectations of going where we are not sure of receiving any Greenbacks for a couple of months to come. Your Pho’s I think is not so well taken as the one you sent me a couple of months ago. Tell Johnny I would like to have the Photograph he promised me when he was here / Tell him also to have it taken in daytime and not in the dark as he wanted to before. Billy sends his Pho’s to you. I intend to have mine taken if I can get to town tomorrow. it is pretty hard to get out of camp at present on account of troops leaving for their different Corps
there are no men here now excepting those belonging to the 11th & 13 Corps Gillmore’s & Bank’s men left yesterday there are a great many men coming in every day from home there are not many Pennsylvanians amongst them. I suppose they are waiting for the election.
We have heard nothing as yet about going off. the general opinion is that we are not to go until our Corps come back, but I think / the Gov. will send all troops forward if possible.
nothing more at present
Give my love to Mother, Sisters & Brothers and same to yourself
from your affectionate Bro
Dan
