            Dear Brother
I received your welcome letter this afternoon along with a letter from Sam and I hurry to answer them as I hate to have a letter remain with me unanswered. I wrote to Sam on Sunday last and Dave hasnt answered any of the letters that I wrote to him from this place. I expect a Valentine from Sam one of these days with a 5 Dollar bill in to replace the pocket book which I have lost. I dont see how the duece I lost it unless some person picked it up from the bed. John Richards seen it laying on the bed while I was putting my shoes on but he thought that I seen it and would put it my pocket, but I took no notice of it until 10 Oclock when I found it was gone. We have a jolly old time of it here. nothing to do but go on guard once a week and that’s not hard to do Im sure. Our Brigade pickets the River for about 3 miles besides sending a couple of companys up to St Johns Run to guard the ferry at that point /

We are going to have new guns one of these fine days. the are the Springfield Rifled Musket. there is 400 of them here now and Col. Knipe has gone to get the balance if he can. There is a Capt. a Lieut. a Seargt. a Corporal & a private going home to Recruit for the Regt Knipe wants to have 1300 men.

The Seargent is out of our Company. His name is Levers. Brown has been pretty sick for a few days past but is getting better fast. He is in a private house down town, sleeps on a feather bed—but he says that he will soon get up and let some one else take his place

I must close now as it is almost time for dress parade
