            Dear Brother
I was very much disappointed at not receiving any answer to the letters that I wrote to you from here but thinking that perhaps either your letters or mine may have been miscarried I write again to you We have a very poor P. M. here. It takes him about half an hour to look at the directions of a letter. he might do very well while there was no Soldiers about but now he is rather too slow /

If you could only see the mails that go from here and those that come in, you would think there was somebody around We got our new pieces a few days ago and feel proud of them as they are splendid pieces. they are called the “Springfield Rifled Musket” some of the Companys have the “Belgiam Rifles” they are a pretty good arm but hav’nt the finish like the Musket.

Some of the Officers of the Regt have gone home to Recruit. The Col wants to raise the Regt to 1500 men our number at present is 960 men. one of our seargents has gone with them and will be in / Bethlehem the early part of this week. our Sibly tents arrived here and we expect to go into camp about a mile from town in the morning. They look to be a good article and have a good stove attached to them but for my part I would rather have the small tent for this reason We have a first rate mess only 6 of us, While in the Sibly tent we will have 16 or 20 but I expect we will have some first rate mess mates and the more the more the merrier. We had expected to be off from here before this as we had orders one day last week to cook 3 days rations and be ready to start at a moments notice, but it seems that the orders has been countermanded / and we will most likely stay here for some time or else they would not send us out to Camp

no more at present

Give my love to Mother Brothers
and Sisters and receive the
same yourself from
