Camp of the 46th P.V
Maryland Heights Nov 29th
Dear Brother
I received your welcome letter in due time but I was unable to answer it as soon as I could have wished as I have been on duty almost all the time for the past four weeks. We have been working at the fortifications on Md Heights and doing picket duty along the Potomac besides doing the duty around camp. We have finished our work on the Heights now so that we have a little time to spare about Camp
We have built our quarters for the winter and are getting along pretty comfortable William McMonagle, John Price & Myself are in one Mess we have a little shanty built and have made a bed raised about two foot from the ground also a fire place in one corner of the shanty. So that we are fixed of better than at any time since we have been in service. We are commencing to get better Grub too we get fresh bread almost every day, potatoes sometimes plenty of fresh meat &c
If they will only leave us here this winter we will get along first rate, although we may have a good bit of picket duty to do
You must excuse the shortness of this letter as I really have no interesting news to send to you
Give my love to Mother, Sisters & Brothers
to all inquiring friends & receive
the same yourself from Your
