Benjamin F. Grigg to Christopher Grigg, 7 February 1863
                                                                                                Kenansville, N. C.,
                                                                                                            February 7th 1863.

Dear Brother:
I received your kind letter on yesterday evening, and I now hasten to respond. I was glad to hear that you were well, and as you are in the army, I am glad that you have as good a position as you have. Endeaver to retain the good will of your company, and promotion is sure. This will require much patience on your part. I managed my quills very well and I steped over the croud. Our regiment has been in no fight yet. We now belong to Genl. Ransom’s brigade, which is composed of the 24th, 25th, 35th, 49th and 56th.

We have been in Kenansville, Duplin / County, about forty miles above Wilmington, since the 20th of January. When we were ordered here it was thought that there would be a fight at Wilmington, but I believe that impression has now almost vanished. There is great talk now of the impending Strugle at Charleston, S.C. I am very anxious to be ordered there.

Yes, Christy, I am married to that beautiful Jennie of whom I wrote while I was at Yorktown Va. I only remained with her one night. My furlough was for but ten days.
Alfred is now at home recruiting. I have now to go on drill. Excuse brevity, I will write again soon.

I will send this to Lebanon.

                                                                                    Yours Affect’ly
                                                                                                B. F. Grigg
