My Dear Brother
                                                                                                                        with Pleasure I will spend a few moments in writing to you we are usually All all that is alive you Perhapse have heard of the death of Milton Sullivan that was verry unexpected to all of the Company we all take it Pretty hard
 
                                                                                                            I have been on guard I went on yesterday morning 8 oclock came off this morning at 9 I have untill noon to clean my gun and belt and Sabor I have got it done and am writing out of the time I ought to be a sleeping we have mooved our camp to Fort 5 on the line of works we are hear to finish the fort how long we shall stay I dont know Perhaps not over 15 or 20 days / we have to work hard and small rations Pretty hard times for a soldier but I can stand it when I am well Bill they had a hard fight up front last week you you have heard how it come out without enny doubt before this time it was the hardest Cannonaiding I have heard since I have been in the Survice it was a Stidy roaring all of the time. it comenced at night and lasted untill morning or noon
 
            Bill we have had verry dry weather and Pleasant so far this fall with the exceptions of cold nights and heavy frosts it is Pretty cold standing on guard nights without gloves I have got a pare of mittons but I cand handle my gun with them I want you to get me a good Pare of Buck skin / gloves and send to me by Mail I want you to Pick them out get a good Pare and have them large enough my hand is larger than yours be sure and get them large enough get them and send the first chance Lote will Pay you for them I Presume they will come the safest to express them by Male send them so that they will come safe take a receipt for them
 
            Bill tell Lote I am well and should like verry much to see her and Eugene my best respects to them tell Lote not to worry about me I am coming sometime to see her
 
                                                                                                                        tell Mother I should like to hear from her the Death of Milton makes me think of home some tell her I / I am well and can eat magets and hard tack tell her I should like to hear that she is better I hope she has good care tell Father I should like to hear from him tell him to write to me and let me know what he has been doing since I left and what butter and Chees is worth and grain and how the crops come in and all of the Particulars
