Dear Brother
it is with Pleasure I try to write a few lines to you the Doctor has just been in camp he has excused me from Duty this after noon so I thought I would write a few lines to you as I did not have much time to write when I wrote you before I think I am gaining sloly Clem has got well and gone on heavy Duty this afternoon
Bill I am taking the thing Pretty cool for a few days it has rained 8 days and nights stedy I never saw so stedy a rain in my life and so long it wound up this morning with a snow storm. this afternoon is cloudy and cold I sit in my little shelter tent writing if I had those gloves I should put them on to write / but never mind a soldier can stand enny thing if he cant they dig a hole for him but I can stand it a spell longer I hope soon to go to washington then I want you to go to the bruerry as you live close to the Bakers and send me a box of butter crackers that will hold about 1/2 of a bushel then Lan and I can live but dont send enny thing untill I send for it when I get there I want some saucage I will send for some stuff to mix with the grubs we get
Bill we get some hard tack that are marked BC before Christ and the magets are marked USA on there backs we have to put them in our Haversacks and lay our heads on them or in the morning we would be minus our hardtack Some loos there rations by not tying it up over night but we have managed to get along some way so far by the help of our friends / at home and I am In hopes they will not forget us when we get in winter quarters we got a nice box from home it come good to just when I was sick and needed it the worst I tell you bill the boys hung round with ther eyes out on there cheeks and sed they never saw enny thing so nice as it was
Bill you dont no How much a soldier Prises some thing good to eat especially when he is sick Bill I want you to write often to me and when you write write How our folks is and all of the news the war news especially write as soon as you get this Bill you are a goin to make a big thing this year in your Shift and Father would do well to make a Shift I think / the sick are all getting along fine. they are fighting on the next line of works above hear most every night I dont think of enny thing more that would be interesting to you so I will close by sending my best respects to you all Hoping you will ans soon from you ever true Brother
