Dear Brother
to night findes me gaining slowly in strength and in strength flesh I am still on light Duty expect to go on heavy Duty soon. the sick are gaining they ar all gaining I guess we would get along if we could get enough to eat we are Pretty hard up or I am at least
I have got 5 cts 2 loves of bread that I paid 30 cts for they are about as big as old fashioned ris biscut. I am in hopes to hear from you Bill soon if you cair enny thing for your Brother Lan. if you will send me a box composed of butter crackers 6 or 8 lbs of brown sugar and 5 or 6 lbs of butter I want something that wont hurt dont send / enny glass bottles in it a little Honey would be good but do as you like about it Bill if you will get up such a box and send to me on a little time if you can wait untill I draw Pay I will send you the money and inttrest and Pay you for your trouble bill if you new what my fix is you would Pitty me or enny other poor Solcher
Bill you are at home whare you can eat when you are hungry sleep when you sleepy and a good bed to sleep on if you are sick you have a good kind wife to take care of you but Bill how difirent with a Poor Soldier when has I enlisted in the defince of my country and compare my fair to your & hear if I am sick it is go to work if hungry eat / what you can get or go with out if it is a ded dog and go to bed crall in to a little shelter tent and lay on the ground if it rains or snows or what not if you cant stand it you will have to dy it is a wonder to me that there has not more of our men died than there has there was an other man died they sent him home to day he was from Potsdam St. lorance Co Ny his name was Cleveland
Bill dont let Lote no that I sent for a box I sent for some money if you could spair it if you have not got the letter I will tell you in this . Bill the I want some money Bill the sugar have it done up in a Paper then make a little cloth sack and put it in then it wont get tore open / some of the boxes gets gamed all to Peaces if they are not fastened up solid if we move from hear it will folow us if directed the same as our letters in care of Lieu Burke Pleas attend to it the first chance I will make it wright with you I want something that wont hurt if it is on the road 4 weeks the talk is now that we will go to North carolina to building Cordira road and they say we are asigned to the 15th and we are in hope to get some officers some time if we ever doe Bill the Crackers I think a great deal of or shall if I get them Pleas send me a bill of them and the Express charges no more at Preasant from your ever true Brother and friend
