Dear Brother
I once more take my pen in hand to inform you that I have once more been paid and the rest of the news of the day witch is not a great deal at this time we have been paid four months pay and it is more than I care to carry around here with me. so you will find enclosd the sum of fifteen dollars ($15.00) for you to put with the rest. and then I shall look for a line immediately after you receive this note. / so that I will know wether it went through safe or not. and then I will send more. so you must write (if it is but two words) as soon as you receive this. you can make time to do so by writeing betwene costomers. there is nothing new around here mutch. only (after every pay day) a plenty of gambling. some at Bluff, honost John, paper swat boards, and more to numerous to mention. but the game that I am afraid of most is the pick pockets. this game is done in the night. this is the reason that I wish an answer to this as soon as it is received. the pickets keep up their hatred to one an other yet and keep shooting. some times as though as if they meant / it the rebs is to work now undermineing some of our forts but they may get catched at it. our men is a countermineing two (that the rebs is to work on or supposed to be.) that is diging a deep ditch in front of them so as to cut them off wen they are about to dig in under the fort then to their sorrow (our happiness) their work all for nothing just immagine diging under ground for about one mile or more and accomplish nothing. there is nothing more at presant. I am in the best of health at presant and hope that this note will find you all the same. I close hopeing to hear soon the arival of this to you.
My love to you and all enquireing Friends. /
Your Brother
