            Dear Father
I now try to continue with my pen after writeing a note to alice. I thought that I would write a letter to you in answer to yours of the 23rd inst and was very glad to hear from from you and also to receive also a Poto Photograth of one mutch beloved. it is a very good one I think that is from a copy. I showed it to some of our old boys two of witch youest to be very intimate with Jonathan and they say it is very good and have been at me for to get them one each. I told them that I would try and do so. I am tenting with them now and have been for some time. / I will give you their names. they are James G. Seargeant and Isac B. Gildersleeve. these two is all that is here now. there is two more away one a prisinor and William H. Moore. the other is wounded and at washington in hospital William Gildersleeve. he is doing well. he got a slight wound. Seargeant says that he would has been at me ever since Jonathans death for me to get him one and I have promised them all one if I lived to get them one. so if you have any that is not occupied I would like to have two more one for J. G. Seargent and one for I. B. Gildersleeve.

there is nothing new around here since I rote to you last (a day or too ago) I was out on Picket yesterday in plain view of the rebs and in good view of their fortifications and also their camps. the picket lines is not very far a / part. there was north carrolinans doing picket duty in front of us or were our Division was doing picket there was no hard feelings betwene us at all the distance betwene us and the rebs (that is the picket lines) is about 150 yards in a clear open field they would walk around out in plain view and we would do the same. but it would not do for them to commence to shoot although they would have good shots for the first one or too. but we could soon get under cover and play at that game too. more up to our right the pickets kept fireing at each other all of the time so they dare not show them selves any more than can be helped or else have a lot of bullets after them. there is no use of fireing on picket unless one or the other side is advanceing. then of corse it is time to / fire on them and drive them back if it can be done but if not fall back our selves. we are enjoying a little rest now witch we nead I think but still we are doing very well. we are laying in the best same place as we was in wen I rote to you last there is nothing new around here at presant so I cant say that think of any thing else to write at this time except that I am in the best of health and am very thankfull that I can say as mutch as that, and I hope that this will find you all well. I will mail this with alice’s. so you may get them both at once. but they are both one date. I received the Standard and the Christian a few days ago, and have received letters before they seem to come right through without any delay.

I will close hopeing to hear from you soon

                                                My love to you all.
