            Dear Sister
I received a letter from about three weeks ago when we were at coal harbor and answered it and have not received any since we were badly cut up there we lay under fire most two weeks and were then sent back to bemudah and then over to Petersburg where the corps is now I fell out after we got back to bemuda with the diarea and am at the corps hospital. I suppose there is a letter at the regt for me I am getting better and expect to join the regt pretty soon

I heard that Uncle Elisha was shot at coal harbor from one of the boys of the Second but do not know how true it is /

There has not been much fighting going on here for a few days the report is that our troops have gained the the breastworks on this side of Petersburg and the rebs on the other so that if the rebs enter we can shell them out and if we enter they can shell us out we captured lots of rebs at Petersburg. We have drawn no clothing since we have been on this campaign when I have a chance I pull my sheet and wash it scrape the lice of put it on again sometime dont have time to let it dry It has been reported that our corps was going to be relieved by the Eighth corps and was either going to Alexandria or Newberne but I guess that is too good news to believe /

I cant think of much more to write about and my hand trembles so I guess close asking you to write all the news

send me one fine comb in your letter
