Alexandria Sept the 20 1862
Dear Nila as I have ben over to Co F and seen Peter Baker Sept the 21 I had leave this letter and go on Drill last night and am on gard to day I have got off now for 4 hours I shall try and write afew lines to let you know how we had to get up last night in the night on double quick time thear was word came that our pickets wer Drove in and that the rebs wer comming on well we got out pretty soon and thear we stayed till morning but no rebs came in sight though our Pickets wer drove in /
well now for it again I have just got a drink of water from one Alonzo Neadham and he is one good fellow he says give his love on a shingle I tell you this does not seam much like Sunday at home now I tell you I heard yesterday that Williams boy was dead Mr Stovall told me and he told me that Wm had Enlisted had you heard of it I got a letter from H. L. Tucker last night and was glad to hear from him and if you se Lucy tell her that I well remember what she wished to know it was this you know that I told her to ask wessley / what he had ben saying about her and you know he cride all the afternoon well Nila I want you should write me a great longe letter and tell me just how you get alonge and how the Children doe and if they want to se father aney tell your fathers folks that it is not because I do not think of them that I do not write to them for I do think of them very often and would like to se them very much but I must wait gods own time per happs I shall never se them in this world but I am striveing to meet / them in the world whear thear will be no more parting no more tears to be shed no mor friends to part with no mo war and strife but all will be goy and peace yes blessed be god thear remains a land of rest for the Children of god now Nila I want you to loock unto him as to a friend he never will forsake you tell Mr Daweses folkes that I should like to spend one mor hour with the friends of our Lord and master and one more sweet hour of prayer I want you and Malona and the rest of the folkes to sing sweet hour of prayer and I live for those that love me whoose hearts are kind and true
