Well My Dear wife and friends at home in old may how do you do this evening and how do you get along this winter for I suppose that old winter is uppon you in good earnest though I suppose that you have not had snow aneough to make sleighing yet we had a quite a hard snow storm down hear in the suney south it snowed and blowed all of one day and the next day it all went off so we had mud a plenty this was last Friday since then it has ben very pleasant my health still remains good as ever and I still grow fat the orderley sargent / weighed me to day and I weighed 158 pounds good and stout Erastus has got well again and says he feels first rate how long it will last I dont know the two Whitman boys have ben sick for about three weaks but not dangerous for they can eat as much as ever and I dont think that aney bodey can eat much when they are very sick but I dont know but they can the rest of the boys are all well Erastus wrote to Father to day and to Malintha the talk is that we leave hear soon but how true it is I dont know nor whear we shall go if we go at all the Colonel thinks / that it is a very unhealthey place hear thear has six or seven died out of this Reg and thear is some more that are in the hospital that probaley neaver will cum out alive one thing is they cannot be taken care of as they should be but we cant expect it in the armey but if we are soldiers in the armey of the Lord and have ben good faithfull soldiers then it will not matter whear we are called to lay down our lives if we have fought the good fight and have finished our course then shall we hear the voise of our father in heaven calling us away from this world of sin and sorow I take great pleasure / in reading my little testament and prey that it may doe me good as it does the upright in heart I thank god that my health and life is spaird me while others are called away and are laid in the cold and silent toomb thear to moulder back to our mother earth but the trump shall sound when all these bodies shall put on immortality oh may we all be prepaird to meet our Judg at that great day why does not Father write to me I should like to have him and Mr Atkins and wife write to me tell them I will answer them tell rila to write and write your self you asked me how I liked the plan of your sending stamps in your letters well Nila I like it first rate stamps are hard to be got doun hear aney way take good care of your selves as you can and put your trust in god
