Darwin C. Pavey to (?) Baldwin, 12 January 1900
Boston, 12th Jan., 1900.
My dear Mr. Baldwin:—
I take pleasure in enclosing a most interesting letter, (part of the unwritten history of the War,) from Col. Charles Marshall, Gen. Lee’s Chief of Staff, and the only officer who accompanied him to Appomattox.
I have taken the liberty of making a copy of it for publication in a Chicago newspaper.
I am on the lookout for the others, including John Sherman.
Sincerely yours,
Darwin C. Pavey,
To
Mr. Baldwin
