My Dear Mother
Sisters and Brothers I take my pen in hand once more to write you a few line Emma I received your soryfull leter leter last night I took it from the Sargent and whent to my tent and opened it and commenct reading it I was reading along come to whare it seys father is no more I could not read no farther for a while I cant write to you how I felt it come so hard but I hope Mother will git well so I / can see her once more mebey I shall see you all before long if i can get a furlough to come home it is puty hard giting a furlow just now I guess but I shall triy it weather I I make enny thing or not but I hope I shall suceed in giting one Mother I hope when you git this leter you can say you ar beter I cant think of enny thing more to write you may judge how I feel my mind is so mist up so that I cant write but litle Emma now I want you to write as soon as you this so to let me know you all git along and I will write more nex time /
if I comme come I cant git the furlow in couple of wees the best I can it has got to go through so may hands thare is nothing of impportance to write this time give my love to all & so good by for this time I

one thing more to write to Clark if my boots is done I wich you would send them to me in a box and send me some writing paper and some in velops and by me a good Razor and strap [?] send me chewing tobacko and / some tea for I have not drink enny sence i left home we have nothing but coffe to drink and what ever thease things cost I will pay you when you write what you pay for them and other things as you can but no aples Clark I wich you would send me some grond musterd it is good to put on meat that is all that I can think of now
if you send a box Peter wants his folks to put sumthing in it for him he wants some tabaco Pare of Suspenders Packeges of invelops and some good writing paper if thay dont send him some to baco he will stop chewing Emma pete wants you and Eve to make him a Solgiers night cap with a good wide border on it his hair is so snarld up so mornings that it is puty hard combing it so if you send it wont be so much work that is all he think of now Em lovejoy wants his folks to send him a pare of suspenders and some writing paper and invelopes if you see his folks you can tell him in this box that is all that he think of
