Dear Sister
I recieved your letter the 4th inst and was muched pleased to hear that you are well and enjoying yourself so much while I am here in this hospital and have been for one munth without going out side so to speak I ask the Dr. for my cloth this morning he said that I could have my pants but must not go out in the sun to much as my eyes looked to much like skim milk he said that if I did I would have the ague and fever I am glad to say that there was nothing taken out of the box every thing came safe and sound / I got my shair of the syrup I have nearly three pints left so that I shall have the full benefit of it after all you have undoubtedly hird of my situation long before this by mothers and Patchens letters since I wrote them I have changed my mind somewhat and instead of deserting just now I have postponed it to some time in the future probaley it will never occur I am going to try and get into the veteren calvary that is being raised in Newbern at this time if I am sucsessfull I shall have but about two years longer to serve and that with credit to myself and the army once out of this I shall know how to act and / conduct myself For three or four days past it has been quite cold so much so that I have been obliged to go to bed to keep warm Pleas tell George that I should like to have him write to me and send some postage stamps if he can possibly spair the time say on some rany day for I suppose that his sundays are ocupied with paying perticular attention to Miss Lucy Barnes or some other yound lady about her sise
Pleas excuse all mistakes
