Barnes Hill
April 3rd 1864
Friend Tim
Your letter bearing date March 9th came duly to hand and I will make no apologies for not answering it sooner save that I have been away from home nearly all the time since I received it.
Your letter found me in first rate health and enjoying myself as well as ever and that is as well as any one can on this hill where there is never any thing going on you know / it always was dull here and it dont get any better Uncle Iras folks has moved down in Dutch settlement he has traded his place for the one that Peter Ennis used to own there is quite a good deal of changeing around some going and some comeing but we stand firm and I guess we always shall
Hannah Casterline has been gone away all winter to day I heard that she had been at home two weeks but I have not seen her tell Loren that he must not go to writeing any love out here to Hannah but if he insists on it make him let you see all the letters so as to be sure that they are all right
Clista Matilda Barnes is going to teach our school this summer so I exspect we shall have some gay times
Katie Barnes and her man goes to their new home next week over on Irish Hill / he has taken Jim Paynes place to work well I must bring my letter to a close please write soon
Respectfuly yours
Carrie Barnes /
