            Dear Miss
I onc more start to drop you a few lines to inform you of my safe return, but almost broken down, as we had to march to suffolk, and thrash the negroes out there. We had a gay time of it. we put them to flight. Captured 40 horses killed 80 negroes, and did not take no prisoners whatever also we captured their camps and all that was in them and one piece of artiler. if it had not been for the women in the town I dont think we could captured or killed any of the negroes or horses, but for we were almost broke down, and cheered us up, and told us to / press on after them, for we would soon captured them all. we rallied up and persued on after them, but could could not captured them all, but we made them take the swamp. we come that nigh takened them. We are now waiting for orders to leave for Va. under Genl. Lee. we expect them every day, and almost hour. I would like to git another furlough to go home, and stay 15 or 20 days. I did not stay long enough the last time to eat as much as I wanted, for I wanted to be going about and see my friends and hear all the good news. but I did not have time to do that much. I know nothing more that would interest you, so I must close, by saying write soon, and send your letter by G L Charles Garrett, and fail not
