                                                                                                            Apr the 19 1865
 
My Dear Wife I now seat my self to pen you a few lines to let you know that I am still alive and well thanks be to God for we have passed through every thing else it seams a most but I will not complain for we have ben sucsessfull we have just got back from Lynchburgh and was in the fight at Hutches runn and then we went up to Peetersburg and our Brigade charged Battery Gregg and captur it after hard fighting I was hit twise but no harm done / only to my blouse though one shoulder was verry lame for some days but is all right then when Lee tried to runn away we went after him cut him off at Appomattax Cort House and then he must fight or surrender and he fought us a little and then surrenderd his hole forse and I have lived to se him surrender thank God for it Nila
 
            I cant write aney more I got a letter from you to day dated the 9 ninth of April
