My Dear wife I now take this oportunity to write you a few lines just to let you know that I am still alive and well we have had the hardest battle that ever was a most for the rebs had some 30,000 and we had a bout 1200 me in the fight we lost in killed wounded and missing 225 besides 11 offisers in our regiment so you se that we had hard times this was on sunday the 15 but god has spaerd my life prais him Johney was wounded in the foot I must stop / for the mail is wait
