                        I ecived your kind letter to day I am well atpresent I ment to write be fore but I have had now chance sow I will make up lost time now Wee had a puty hard time comeing down the river But we got through safe after all wee nevr lost a man Wee had some hurt by the pipes that fell when the Boat struck the Bar wee lost all most all of our horses you spoke of my losing my Watch the thief has not Brought it Back and I dont think he will I dont know who you mean by Brother Chancy unless it is Chany And you spoke of Mr Jenkins and Charls Andersen And spoke as though thay coming to this comphany Thay have not come to this compney yet as I have not seen them Vicksburgh is a good grave yard you could lay a pile of dead men to the bottom of the hill and gow on top with a hard / spike and cover them up in a minute fore it is nothing But hills here you spoke of Byron a coming home sick that rough on the hundird day man poor little fellow I am sorry fore him And you spoke of some being drafted I am glad to see them be made to come and do some thing fore thare cuntrey Whare would the rebles be now if we all styed ot like these two Vicksburgh is the poorist place i ever was in you cant get a paper wonst a month and evry thing you by you have to pay duble fore it All most all the trups here is nigers nigers are thicker here then the sheep and cattle are up north sow you can gess how thick they are down here I have been on the spot whare Grant and Geneal Pemberton had thare interview the Goverment has put A large Monument thare and on the Monument read thus
