I received your letter of the 13th and was very glad to hear from you again but I have neglected answering it for the reason that I had neither stamps nor envelopes nor money to get any but fortunately the Pay Master came around and payed us of and I procured some We got 4 months pay this time the boys are mightty rich now got money plenty. I dont begrudge you your hapiness liveing in your little purp tent this cold wether I am glad it aint me but I had just as leves be after them bush whackers as not I think I could take comfort in killing them /
by the way some of our boys went home on a furlough to vote thay had a little skurmish with some gurrillas between here and Louisville thay had no arms but revolvers thay killed some and run the rest off with them you know Cy Butlar that broke prairie thare on the Knox land for Ogden & Bundy he killed a Reb he dont like them thay killed his brother last summer between here and Nashville while guarding a drove of cattle the Rebs took him and 4 others prisonors thay marched them about 4 miles and then shot them all but a Lieutenant he got away. I have heard from Ills by way of the boys that went home but I have not had a letter from thare since Septimber I dont know what has got the / matter with them that thay dont write any more I tried to get home but Cap wouldent let me go Mercer Co boys had to be served first Mat Hiller went home his folks live up thare with the widow now Mat says things look about the same as always he says the Old Horse Deacon is Dead again Mcmillen had him off herding cattle with him when he Died—
I have not heard from O Jones since he left here he was ordered to Dalton Georgia he went as far as Nashville and got leve of abcence to go home I dont know whare he is now but I suppose he has gone back
Chank do you ever think of old times how do you think Old Buggy Wheel is / by this time I dont hear any thing from him any more I dont recon he has gone to war do you
